Update: Cemetery of Splendor returns to the Film Society of Lincoln Center on Friday, March 4 for a theatrical run!

On today’s episode of our podcast, we’ve got a fascinating HBO Directors Dialogue with Thai filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul. His new film, Cemetery of Splendor is part of Main Slate of the 53rd New York Film Festival, which begins this Friday.

Leading up to this year’s NYFF, we’ve been digging through our archives in search. In case you missed it, check out last week’s wide-ranging discussion with Robert Zemeckis, director of our opening night film, The Walk. At the 48th NYFF back in 2010, Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s previous film Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives had its U.S. Premiere after winning the prestigious Palme d’Or at Cannes. During the festival, the director joined programmer Dennis Lim on stage in our Walter Reade Theater to talk about filmmaking. Their far-reaching discussion touched on many aspects of Weerasethakul’s illustrious career, from his unique approach to structure and sound design to the influence of science fiction on his work.

The 53rd New York Film Festival continues the tradition of insightful conversations with filmmakers, including our On Cinema masterclass with Hou Hsiao-Hsien, HBO Directors Dialogues with Todd Haynes, Michael Moore, and Jia Zhangke, as well as free NYFF Live talks everyday at 7pm in our Amphitheater.
