James Gray’s The Lost City of Z and Terence Davies’s A Quiet Passion are the focus of this week’s episode of The Close-Up podcast. Both films premiered at last fall’s New York Film Festival and begin their official theatrical runs on April 14th.

The Lost City of Z stars Charlie Hunnam as the real-life explorer Percy Fawcett, who at the dawn of the 20th century repeatedly journeyed into the Amazon in search of proof of an undiscovered ancient civilization. The film’s world premiere took place as the Closing Night film at the 54th New York Film Festival, and ahead of its public screening, writer-director James Gray joined co-stars Robert Pattinson and Sienna Miller for a press conference moderated by Kent Jones.

In A Quiet Passion, Cynthia Nixon portrays legendary poet Emily Dickinson. The film showed as a special Film Comment Presents screening at the 54th New York Film Festival. Before its premiere, writer-director Terence Davies joined Cynthia Nixon for a press conference led by the Film Society’s Editorial Director Michael Koresky.
