An exclusive of Joaquim Pinto’s What Now? Remind Me trailer has arrived at the Film Society.

Pinto, a veteran of Portuguese film who’s worked with the likes of Raúl Ruiz, Manoel de Oliveira, and João César Monteiro, turns the camera on himself for this intimate account of living with HIV. This cinematic self-portrait, which screened at last year's New York Film Festival in addition to the Locarno Film Festival, Vienna Film Festival, and others (picking up the Special Jury Prize at Locarno), delves into facing the virus and its gruelling toll on Pinto’s life as a cinematic trampoline by which Pinto examines life and the worldly beauty of the past and the present.

What Now? Remind Me takes viewers into Pinto’s initial pursuit of his artistic lifestyle, diagnosis of his condition, and recent experimental clinical trial for HIV patients, while expanding its reflections for viewers from all walks of life, exploring the relationships of the world and art, the present, and history.

Ben Sachs of the Chicaco Reader wrote: “Documentary and personal essay are inadequate labels for this profound autobiographical opus by Portuguese filmmaker Joaquim Pinto; like Chris Marker's Sans Soleil (1983) or Jean-Luc Godard and Anne-Marie Miéville's Soft and Hard (1985), the film uses self-inquiry to divine what it means to be alive at this point in history.“

This exclusive trailer gives a taste of the life, enthusiasm, and poetic imagery Pinto brings to the table in his new doc, and even a catchy tune! Take a look and stop by the Film Society beginning August 9 for its one-week exclusive theatrical run.
