Cristi Puiu returns to the New York Film Festival with his virtuosic chamber drama Sieranevada, which will have its U.S. Premiere in this year’s Main Slate. The above clip shows the director revisiting the lasting effect of CeauČ™escu Communism, a major theme of the Romanian New Wave that Puiu helped jumpstart with his 2005 film The Death of Mr. Lazarescu (NYFF43). In a hilarious second clip, the film tackles a decidedly lighter topic: costumes for a play about Disney princesses.
