On the opening weekend for his new documentary I Called Him Morgan, director Kasper Collin joined us at the Film Society for several Q&As. His film concerns famed jazz musician Lee Morgan and the relationship he had with his wife, Helen Morgan, which ended in tragedy. In the video above, Collin was joined by music journalist Ashley Kahn, who moderated the post-screening discussion, which also included jazz musicians and film subjects Larry Ridley and Billy Harper. Collin describes what initially attracted him to Morgan’s story, and the guests go on to discuss their personal relationships to the events and subjects covered in the film.

I Called Him Morgan previously screened at the Film Society in the Spotlight on Documentary section of the 54th New York Film Festival. The film is now playing daily.
