As part of the NYFF Live free talks series during the 54th New York Film Festival, the Film Society’s Michael Gibbons sat down with actor Sônia Braga and director Kleber Mendonça Filho to talk about their new film, Aquarius. In the video above, Braga and Filho discuss the ideas behind the film and the process of making it, as well as its dramatic reception. The film’s premiere at Cannes was accompanied by a red carpet protest of the new Brazilian government. Similar protests have followed the film at its screenings around the world, from Paris to Sydney to New York. Aquarius is now playing in theaters.
