The evening will celebrate the plethora of iconic roles he has played and the remarkable work he has directed and/or produced. Redford continues to influence the world of cinema, through his distinguished stage and film career, as well as his continued support of several generations of innovative voices in independent film through his nonprofit Sundance Institute and internationally recognized Film Festival. The event will be attended by a host of notable guests and culminate in the presentation of the Chaplin Award.

Film Society of Lincoln Center
Founded in 1969 to celebrate American and international cinema, the Film Society of Lincoln Center presents the prestigious New York Film Festival, New Directors/New Films, and annual programs including Art of the Real, Dance on Camera, Human Rights Watch Film Festival, New York African Film Festival, New York Asian Film Festival, New York Jewish Film Festival, Open Roads: New Italian Cinema, NewFest, and Rendez-Vous with French Cinema. In addition to these programs, the Film Society operates the Walter Reade Theater, the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center, and publishes the nation’s most respected journal on cinema, Film Comment.

Chaplin Award
The annual Chaplin Award Gala is the Film Society’s major fundraising event, helping to support the organization’s ongoing work in education, artist development, and cross-cultural film outreach. This celebration of Robert Redford is the continuation of a 42-year tradition at the Film Society that honors a distinguished film artist whose body of work and lifetime of achievements represent a significant contribution to the art of film. Past honorees include luminaries such as Meryl Streep, Bette Davis, Alfred Hitchcock, James Stewart, Dustin Hoffman, Audrey Hepburn, Michael Douglas, Tom Hanks, Barbra Streisand, and of course, the iconic Charlie Chaplin.
