Pennsylvania-born filmmaker Ephraim Asili has been exploring different facets of the African diaspora—and his own place within it—for nearly a decade. Two of his most inventive works are currently screening in the FLC Virtual Cinema: The Diaspora Suite, a cycle of five experimental shorts that explore the hidden resonances between the Black American experience and the greater African diaspora; and NYFF58 selection The Inheritance, a vibrant ensemble film based partly on Asili’s experiences of living in a Black radical collective. In this special live event, Asili will deliver an artist’s lecture exploring the continuities in his body of work and the intertwined roles of building and destroying in the process of artistic creation.
