Film at Lincoln Center is proud to welcome visionary filmmaker Michael Almereyda (Marjorie Prime, Experimenter, Hamlet) to discuss his latest film Tesla, which was awarded the Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival. The highly anticipated film, which is being released by IFC Films on August 21, reteams Almereyda with Ethan Hawke and Kyle MacLachlan for the first time since Hamlet in 2000. Hawke and MacLachlan star as famed inventors and fierce rivals Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison, alongside an extraordinary cast that includes Eve Hewson, Jim Gaffigan, Donnie Keshawarz, Rebecca Dayan, Josh Hamilton, and Lucy Walters.

The conversation will be moderated by celebrated filmmaker and frequent Ethan Hawke collaborator, Richard Linklater (Boyhood, Before Trilogy). Submit your questions through Twitter or Instagram before and during the talk using #AskFLC.

About the Film:

Brilliant, visionary Nikola Tesla (Ethan Hawke) fights an uphill battle to bring his revolutionary electrical system to fruition, then faces thornier challenges with his new system for worldwide wireless energy. The film tracks Tesla’s uneasy interactions with his fellow inventor Thomas Edison (Kyle MacLachlan) and his patron George Westinghouse (Jim Gaffigan). Another thread traces Tesla’s sidewinding courtship of financial titan J.P. Morgan (Donnie Keshawarz), whose daughter Anne (Eve Hewson) takes a more than casual interest in the inventor. Anne analyzes and presents the story as it unfolds, offering a distinctly modern voice to this scientific period drama which, like its subject, defies convention. Winner of the 2020 Sundance Film Festival’s 2020 Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize. An IFC Films release. Subject to theater availability, the film will open in select theaters and on VOD/digital platforms on August 21.
