The phrase “second screen”—the use of a mobile device to provide a deeper story experience by augmenting the otherwise linear storytelling on a second device—has been gaining considerable traction. From the Olympics to Game of Thrones, television has been using the nascent form to deepen fan connection to content and engage audiences in entirely new ways. Yet while second (or even third) screens may have become commonplace in living rooms they haven’t yet in movie theaters… until now.

Join Convergence for a free preview screening of APP, which has been billed as the first second-screen feature film. Before entering the theater, download the second-screen experience by texting IRIS to 97-000 (or download the free app from the iTunes or Google Play Stores), then plunge into an wholly unique immersive film experience at this special event. IRIS allows access to secret conversations, alternate perspectives, and off-screen action while you watch!

Anna, a student at the University of Amsterdam, lives with her best friend Sophie and balances psychology classes with supporting her brother and his recovery following a traumatic accident. She’s never far from her cell phone, and after a night of partying wakes up groggy and hungover only to find that a new app has been inexplicably installed. Initially helpful and clever, IRIS soon begins behaving mysteriously. When it becomes clear she can’t delete the unwanted evil app, Anna’s efforts to confront it sets in motion a fearful series of events that places her life—as well as her roommate’s and fragile brother’s—in fatal danger.
