Cellphone videos and live distribution channels are being used as evidence for advocacy in cases of police and military accountability, protests, hate crimes and beyond. It is clear that we, the people, have the tools to hold power structures to account. The significance of this form of media is clear, however, the serious repercussions for those involved in capturing and distributing the footage is a troubling trend. Join us for a discussion exploring how publicly sourced media is being utilized for impact, as well as the issues civilians face when recording and distributing information, as our panel of filmmakers, journalists and activists share best practices on how to safely and effectively keep powerful institutions accountable. Moderated by Amy Goodman, Democracy Now! with Jackie Zammuto, Program Manager at WITNESS, Jennifer MacArthur, Media Strategist and Creative Producer, Courtney Radsch, Advocacy Director at the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) and Dennis Flores, Artist, Activist and Educator.

Join us after the discussion, where participants from the panel and others will share best practices, materials and hands-on guidance about how to film and share media safely. In collaboration with Meerkat Media, WITNESS and others. Furman Gallery, Film Society of Lincoln Center, 8-9:30pm.

In film there are no borders. Support the arts. Embrace cinema. Film Lives Everywhere.
