In Noel Black’s vertiginous black-comic cult favorite, Weld brings a sunnily ominous twist to the all-American-girl archetype as a dangerously bored high-school senior who runs away with the spy fantasies of an arsonist parolee (Anthony Perkins). Perkins’s backtalking oddball, working at a paint factory, finds the tables turned when he draws Weld’s all-too-game drum majorette into CIA make-believe.
