On Tuesday night, writer-director Barry Jenkins and the cast of If Beale Street Could Talk—including KiKi Layne, Stephan James, Colman Domingo, Teyonah Parris, Diego Luna, Ed Skrein, Brian Tyree Henry, and Regina King—brought their James Baldwin adaptation to the Apollo Theater. Marking the first-ever New York Film Festival premiere at Harlem’s historic theater, the night was a beautiful celebration of Baldwin’s legacy, featuring a special remembrance from his family. Earlier in the week, Jenkins joined acclaimed writer Darryl Pinckney for a special conversation at the Film Society about the process of bringing Baldwin to the screen.
