FILM SOCIETY OF LINCOLN CENTER ARTIST FOR
50TH NEW YORK FILM FESTIVAL POSTER IS CINDY SHERMAN

New York, NY (October 2, 2012) – The Film Society of Lincoln Center, America’s pre-eminent New York-based non-profit organization, revealed the artist of the 50th New York Film Festival poster is Cindy Sherman. Throughout the past 49 years, a stellar line-up of artists commissioned their work for the New York Film Festival poster. Please find a complete list of artists below.

“How thrilling for the Film Society to have an artist of Cindy Sherman's magnitude carry on the 50-year tradition of designing a poster to announce the opening of the New York Film Festival,” Said FSLC Board Chairman Ann Tenenbaum. “We are grateful to Cindy for her contribution to our storied history.”

Born in 1954 in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, Cindy Sherman is counted among the most influential artists of the last half-century. Upon graduating from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1976, Sherman relocated to New York City where she began making the seminal Untitled Film Stills. She has gone on to photograph and cast herself in various roles through her masterful use of costume, setting and pose. A retrospective of Sherman’s work opened in February of 2012 at the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Accompanied by a comprehensive catalogue, the exhibition will travel to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis and the Dallas Museum of Art. A selective exhibition organized by the Moderna Museet, Stockholm and the Astrup Fearnley Museum, Oslo will open in 2013 before traveling to other European venues.

The poster is currently available for purchase online www.filmlinc.com/nyff50poster and in-person at the New York Film Festival kiosk in Alice Tully Hall and the Film Society of Lincoln Center merchandise store located in the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center.
