The 50th New York Film Festival will include more special events and programs than ever before! In addition to the Special Screenings listed below, check out the filmmaker conversations in our popular HBO Directors Dialogues / On Cinema series; two great Shorts Programs; and new sections Cinema Reflected, featuring illuminating documentaries and essay films about movies and the men and women who make them; On the Arts, which captures music, opera, theater and magic on screen in films that reflect other performing arts through the prism of cinema; and Midnight Movies, guaranteed to jangle even the steadiest of nerves.
The Met Live in HD: L’Elisir d’Amore
A special NYFF edition of the long-running performances series, featuring director Bartlett Sher’s season-opening production of Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore. The performance, transmitted live from the Met stage, will be followed by a live, in-theater discussion with Met Opera General Manager Peter Gelb and Gary Halvorson, Emmy Award-winning director of The Met: Live in HD, who will both come straight from the TV truck!
Oliver Stone’s Untold History of the United States
Oliver Stone sets about exposing the errors and omissions in the official record of 20th century American history in this special preview of his explosive new Showtime miniseries.
