New York Film Festival 59

We are beyond excited to be partnering with the New York Film Festival and Film at Lincoln Center to bring the JBFC community four selections from the stellar lineup of films at this year’s NYFF. The fall festival season is one of the most electrifying times to work in film exhibition—it’s where we start thinking about the film year ahead and seeing just what we’ll be able to bring you, our audience, in the weeks and months to come. It’s also a big time of year for discovering works from inspiring new artists who we are not yet familiar with, but whose stories we are now lucky enough to see on the Big Screen.

Over the course of three days, we’ll bring you two films from the festival’s Main Slate: Joachim Trier’s (Reprise; Oslo, August 31) Cannes darling The Worst Person in the World, and Joanna Hogg’s (Archipelago, The Souvenir) highly anticipated The Souvenir Part II; from the Spotlight section (NYFF’s showcase of the season’s most anticipated films) we’ll show acclaimed Italian director Marco Bellocchio’s (Fists in the Pocket, The Traitor) most personal film to date, Marx Can Wait; and finally, we’ll screen the opening night film from the festival’s Currents section (a slate of contemporary films featuring new and innovative voices), the latest from Maureen Fazendeiro and Miguel Gomes, The Tsugua Diaries.

If this small sampling is any indication (and it is), the fall season is gearing us up for a fabulous year of movies and we’re so thrilled to be able to offer you this advance look at what’s ahead.
