On this week’s episode of our podcast, we’re sharing a highlight from this year’s Rendez-Vous with French Cinema, which continues here at the Film Society of Lincoln Center through March 13. Renowned actress Isabelle Huppert kicked off the festival’s slate of Free Talks (sponsored by HBO) with a far-reaching conversation about cinema; her work with visionary directors like Michael Cimino, Michael Haneke, and Hong Sangsoo; and her new film Valley of Love, which was the festival’s Opening Night selection. To hear more insightful conversations like this one, subscribe to The Close-Up on iTunes, and if you like what you hear, leave us a review!

Valley of Love stars Huppert and fellow French icon Gérard Depardieu as a divorced couple who reunite after receiving a strange letter from their deceased son. The melancholic and surreal film from director Guillaume Nicloux has been widely acclaimed since its premiere at Cannes, where it screened in competition, and went on to win the César Award for Best Cinematography. If you missed it last Friday, come see Valley of Love here at the Film Society when it begins its theatrical run on March 25.
