Dance on Camera: Iconic Dance Sequences in Cinema

This past weekend, dance enthusiasts from all over the country virtually gathered to experience the 48th edition of Dance on Camera Festival, presented digitally for the first time ever. To celebrate the toe-tapping new works from both emerging and established filmmakers presented at this year’s festival, we asked you to share your favorite dance sequences in cinema history on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

Featuring unforgettable selections from the legendary Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, West Side Story, The Red Shoes, Call Me By Your Name, Hellzapoppin’, Denis Lavant, The Young Girls of Rochefort, Singin’ in the Rain, Saturday Night Fever, The Last Days of Disco, Burning, Dancer in the Dark, Madeline’s Madeline, and more, it’s the ideal selection to dance the night away to. Thank you to everyone who joined the conversation!

This ongoing series is a part of our Community Corner, which brings movie lovers together in a digital space for community and conversation.

Although our theaters are currently closed, our Virtual Cinema and Media Center remain open 24/7. Stay connected to Film at Lincoln Center by joining our online community on InstagramTwitter, or Facebook, and don’t miss a thing by subscribing to the weekly newsletter.

Whether it’s the “best” dance sequence in even that same film alone is arguable, but America from West Side Story is definitely a big favorite of mine.
