New York Film Critics Circle Award Winners at Film Society

Two big winners from the 2011 New York Film Critics Circle Awards are back at the Film Society of Lincoln Center this Friday.

Werner Herzog’s Cave of Forgotten Dreams is making a triumphant return to our screens after winning the award for Best Non-Fiction Film. Shot in stunning 3D, the documentary travels 32,000 years back in time to explore France’s Chauvet caves, home of the earliest known images made by human hands. “Herzog says that in general, he dislikes 3-D, but he believes there are occasions when 3-D is appropriate, and this is one of them,” notes Roger EbertCave of Forgotten Dreams will be playing daily at 11:00am starting Friday. Margin Call, which took home the NYFCC award for Best First Feature (J.C. Chandor), will continue its run for another week (at least). The film, which also won the Independent Spirit Awards’ Robert Altman Prize for director, casting director and ensemble cast, is powered by a collection of all-star performers including Kevin Spacey, Paul Bettany, Zachary Quinto, Demi Moore, Stanley Tucci, and Jeremy Irons. “It is hard to believe that Margin Call is Mr. Chandor’s first feature,” says the New York Times. “His formal command—his ability to imply far more than he shows or says and to orchestrate a large, complex drama out of whispers, glances and snippets of jargon—is downright awe inspiring.” Showtimes, tickets and more info…
