On this week’s podcast, Italian filmmaker Alice Rohrwacher discusses Happy as Lazzaro, one of the most acclaimed films of the year. It is now streaming on Netflix.

Happy as Lazzaro ranked #9 on this year’s Film Comment critics poll and won the screenwriting prize at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The screenplay was partially written during Rohrwacher’s time as the Film Society of Lincoln Center’s Artist in Residence back in 2016, and we welcomed her back for this year’s New York Film Festival where the film was a Main Slate selection. During NYFF, she also joined us for one of our HBO Directors Dialogues, where she talked about bringing her unique vision to the screen.
