Jane Campion’s Own Stories, our retrospective of the New Zealand auteur’s four-decade career, is now playing through September 17.

Campion’s work reflects a highly personal and idiosyncratic style, influenced by her background in anthropology and painting, and notable for its visual inventiveness, dark sense of humor, and complex depictions of women and sexuality. On opening night, the director joined programmer Dennis Lim to talk about her illustrious career and Top of the Lake: China Girl which debuted on SundanceTV this month.
