Now playing here at the Film Society, Ryuichi Sakamoto: Coda is a documentary five years in the making from director Stephen Schible.
Sakamoto’s work has spanned genres and forms: from pioneering electronic music as a member of Yellow Magic Orchestra to crafting globally inspired rock albums, classical compositions, minimal and ambient music collaborations, and over 30 film scores. Using footage from Sakamoto’s life and career, Schible’s film is an intimate portrait of both the artist and his creative process.
Following a screening last weekend, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Stephen Schible joined writer Sasha Frere-Jones to talk about the film. Listen below or click here to subscribe to The Close-Up on iTunes.
