Richard Linklater is the rare director who has a wealth of cinematic knowledge yet subtly weaves his influences into films that are entirely his own. During an On Cinema talk at the 55th New York Film Festival, following the Opening Night world premiere of Last Flag Flying, he discussed his early cinema-going days with moderator Kent Jones. In the wide-ranging talk, he presented clips from Eraserhead, Raging Bull, Barry Lyndon, and more, and he talked about meeting Robert Altman and his love for The Long Goodbye. Last Flag Flying will be released on November 3 by Amazon Studios and Lionsgate.
