Watch: Trailer for Queer Cinema Before Stonewall Series

Get a taste of our upcoming series An Early Clue to the New Direction: Queer Cinema Before Stonewall with this trailer created by filmmaker Zach Clark. Charting a course from the late 19th century to the cusp of the modern gay-rights movement, it features films by Alfred Hitchcock, Dorothy Arzner, Jean Genet, Andy Warhol, Shirley Clarke, Kenneth Anger, Vincente Minnelli, George Cukor, and more. The essential survey runs April 22 – May 1 here at the Film Society of Lincoln Center and reveals the terrain of early queer cinema to be far vaster and more varied than received histories might suggest.
