This event takes place Saturday, July 11 from 3-4pm at Film at Lincoln Center’s Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center Amphitheater. Tickets are $5 for FLC and NYAFF Members and $10 for the General Public.

Join us for a rare opportunity to hear firsthand from legendary Hong Kong director Andrew Lau, NYAFF’s 2026 Filmmaker In Focus, as he discusses his latest film The Dumpling Queen, along with his incredible library of work, including NYAFF 2026 featured films Initial D and The Storm Riders .

Andrew Lau Wai-keung trained in the camera department at Shaw Brothers straight out of secondary school and went on to shoot two films that changed the look of Hong Kong cinema: Ringo Lam’s City on Fire (1987) and Wong Kar-wai’s As Tears Go By (1988). He reunited with Wong as cinematographer on Chungking Express (1994), earning Hong Kong Film Awards nominations for his camerawork along the way. As a director, he co-founded BoB & Partners with Wong Jing and Manfred Wong and turned the Young and Dangerous series (1996) into a phenomenon, then pushed local spectacle into the digital era with The Storm Riders (1998). He co-directed Infernal Affairs (2002) with Alan Mak, as well as Initial D (2005) and Confession of Pain (2006). His latest feature is The Dumpling Queen (2025), which was just released in China to wide acclaim.
