Film Comment Free Talk: An Elephant Sitting Still
Hu Bo’s An Elephant Sitting Still is “destined to maintain a certain legendary status,” wrote our correspondent, Dan Sullivan, about its Berlinale premiere. Shot in intimate, virtuoso Steadicam shots, Hu Bo’s story of desperate individuals in a Chinese town is the subject of a new essay by Aliza Ma in Film Comment’s new March/April issue. To explore An Elephant Sitting Still, Film Comment is very pleased to bring together actor Zhang Yu, who plays Yu Cheng in the film; Dinda Elliott, senior vice president of the China Institute; Aliza Ma, head of programming at Metrograph; and Nicolas Rapold, editor-in-chief of Film Comment and host of The Film Comment Podcast.
Mr. Zhang Yu’s appearance made possible with support from The China Institute.
An Elephant Sitting Still is now playing at the Film Society of Lincoln Center. Get tickets here.
