Free Talks: The Daniels (Swiss Army Man)
Swiss Army Man made a splash at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, where it quickly became known as “the one where Daniel Radcliffe plays a farting corpse.” Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (a.k.a. “the Daniels”) shared the festival’s best director award for this, their feature debut, which stars Paul Dano as a man stranded on a desert island and Radcliffe as a dead body that washes ashore. The Daniels, who share editing and visual effects duties in addition to directing, also often appear in their own films, whether as actors, dancers, or stunt doubles. Though Swiss Army Man—which hits theaters on June 24—is their debut feature, they have been making music videos and shorts for years; were nominated for two Grammys; and won best director at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards for DJ Snake and Lil Jon’s “Turn Down for What,” which is nearing 500 million views on YouTube. Join them as they talk about Swiss Army Man, their collaborative process, and what’s next for them.
