A creative follow-up to a popular Chinese television series (where some of the cast got their start), Zhang Yibai’s vignettes feature stars Xu Jinglei and Yang Zheng in three different imagined scenarios of future romance. The stories begin with a stylized look at an affluent married couple in Beijing before turning to the tougher times of a working-class pair in Shanghai who reconnect after a separation, and finally the escapist tale of a last-minute reunion across the globe in Bordeaux, France. A feast of top-notch production values, it’s whimsically intercut with interviews with “real-life” couples.
