This visually striking and meditative tale set in the Himalayas follows Nima, a schoolteacher who ventures south in the footsteps of a woman who looks exactly like her—only to find herself unraveling a deeper mystery tied to a stolen sacred song. Nima has been fired over a viral sex video featuring her doppelgänger, and she’s desperate to reclaim her unspotted reputation. But as traditional Dzongkha music lends a dreamlike rhythm to her existential quest, the journey expands from the personal to the political. Gradually, with atmospheric lensing enhancing landscapes of great natural potency, the boundaries between the two women’s identities begin to blur. Beneath the poetry of the imagery lies a powerful feminist core, as the film tackles the strictures of patriarchy and celebrates female solidarity.
