A special conversation with legendary Hollywood producer and studio executive David V. Picker, on the publication of his new book Musts, Maybes, and Nevers, moderated by producer Peter Saraf. As President of United Artists, Paramount and Columbia, and producer of The Jerk, Lenny and The Crucible, David Picker has seen it all, loved it all (well, most of it), and now he’s sharing it all.
David helped launch the careers of many industry heavyweights including Woody Allen and Steve Martin and delivered gritty, dramatic, and cultural classics such as the James Bond series, the films of The Beatles, John Schlesinger's Oscar-winner Midnight Cowboy and Bernardo Bertolucci's controversial Last Tango in Paris. Additional films include Tom Jones, Sunday, Bloody Sunday, Women in Love, Bananas, Saturday Night Fever, Grease, Ordinary People, Days of Heaven, Heaven Can Wait, and The Last Emperor and many others.
David V. Picker is a third generation motion picture executive, as well as an Oscar, Emmy, and Golden Globe nominated producer. He has been President of three major film studios – United Artists, Paramount, and Columbia. Among the many European filmmakers he brought to United Artists were Federico Fellini, Ingmar Bergman, Francois Truffaut, Louis Malle and Sergio Leone. Mr. Picker is a member of the board of The Producers Guild of America and is Chairman Emeritus of the PGA East.
Peter Saraf's producing credits include The Kings of Summer, Safety Not Guaranteed, Our Idiot Brother, Jack Goes Boating, Sunshine Cleaning, Away We Go, Is Anybody There?, Little Miss Sunshine, Everything Is Illuminated, The Truth About Charlie, Adaptation, Ulee's Gold and the feature documentaries Mandela and The Agronomist. Peter has been nominated for Academy and Golden Globe Awards and has won multiple awards including the Spirit, Gotham and PGA Awards. He is the co-founder of Big Beach, a New York based independent film production and financing company. Peter is Chair of the Producers Guild of America East.
