Views from the Acropolis. Lonnie van Brummelen and Siebren de Haan, Netherlands/Turkey, 2012, 14:58min.
Griffith once noticed: “What the modern movie lacks is the beauty of moving wind in the trees.” As third part of the series of filmworks Monument to Another Man’s Fatherland, View from the Acropolis explores the site where the Pergamon Altar was taken from in the late 19th century. Today a Berlin highlight, the altar was originally built around 200 BC in Anatolia (present day Turkey). In the landscape, different cultures, present and past are interwoven, connected by their presence, the wind and the changing light.

Paisaje-Duración Rocas (Landscape Rocks). Lois Patiño, Spain, 2011 4:19min.
The evaporation or the centralization of the self. Everything is there.”
Charles Baudelaire
A sensorial approach to landscape In the deep contemplation of landscape the senses are altered. We feel a sublimation experience where the mental image of landscape undergoes a metamorphosis. The actual space is distorted, time flows in a different way: it stops in our consciousness. It is the connection at the “full instant”, the idea of “durèe” of Henri Bergson, where the intensity of the experience makes the image of landscape expands.

Montaña en sombra
(Mountain in shadow). Lois Patiño, Spain, 2012, 13:54min.
A poetic view into the relationship of immensity between man and landscape. We contemplate, from the distance, the activity of the skiers on the snowy mountain. The pictorial image and the dark and dreamlike atmosphere transforms the space into something unreal, imprecise, converting it also in a spectral presence.

Nile Perch (35mm version). Josh Gibson, USA/Uganda, 2013, 16:47min.
Economic in style and subject, Nile Perch is an austere, contemplative apologue of Lake Victoria fishermen in Uganda. In flickering black and white, a fish is tracked from a fisherman’s line to export commodity.

Three Landscapes. Peter Hutton, 2013 USA/Ethiopa, 46min.
A film study of human movement across three distinct landscapes in the world; Detroit, Michigan, the Hudson River Valley,, New York and the Dalloll depression in Northeastern Ethiopia.
