Sound + Vision Live: Emar Diem
Emar Diem create vast, off-the-cuff canyons of sound, sending pulsing organ tones through electronics. Their sounds are patient, meditative, and occasionally reminiscent of an elongated horror-film soundtrack.
Sound + Vision Live explores the connections between music and film through a series of intimate concerts featuring live music and original video work.
Emar Diem is an improvised duo made up of Farfisa Organ and electronics and featuring composers David Moore and Mauro Remiddi, aka Porcelain Raft. Moore is the driving force behind Bing & Ruth, a piano-led acoustic, ambient ensemble featuring clarinets, cellos, upright bass, and a tape echo machine that takes cues from Steve Reich, Stars of the Lid, and Morton Feldman. Their new record, Tomorrow Was the Golden Age, is due out from RVNG Intl. on October 14. Originally hailing from Rome and now based in Brooklyn, Remiddi has been releasing space dream-pop music under the name Porcelain Raft since 2010. His latest record, Permanent Signal, was released by Secretly Canadian in 2013.
As Emar Diem, Moore and Remiddi create vast, off-the-cuff canyons of sound, sending pulsing organ tones through electronics. Their sounds are patient, meditative, and occasionally reminiscent of an elongated horror-film soundtrack. Moore and Remiddi have invited another Brooklyn musician, Port St. Willow, to screen his 2013 collaboration with visual artist Hana Tajima, Soft Light Rush, which features a string of original songs filled with trombone, guitar, and vibraphone set to superimposed images of the city, trees, and water. Port St. Willow is a recording artist for Downtown Records whose work is reminiscent of Jeff Buckley, Talk Talk, and My Bloody Valentine.
