In this pink film with Elektra overtones, the widowed Michiyo reawakens sexually after being drugged and defiled by a merchant, and becomes haunted by memories of a youthful affair. Meanwhile, her college-age daughter begins her first sexual relationship with a boy who’s oddly reminiscent of Michiyo’s lover. With the simultaneous grace and severity of a Kabuki play, the two women antagonistically vie for his attention. Konuma’s expertly staged erotic scenes and torrid symbolism are sure to electrify.
