The Fable
New York Asian Film Festival 2019
June 28 - July 11, 2019
An unequaled yakuza hit man known as The Fable is ordered to lay low and live a “normal life,” but while undercover is forced into action to protect a woman, in this picture-perfect antihero-comedy manga adaptation.
Q&A with Kan Eguchi
The Fable is a legendary yakuza hit man, equal to none. His boss suddenly orders him and his sultry associate to lay low and live a “normal life” because “top assassins need that skill.” While undercover, he meets the charming Misaki, who gets him a delivery job. Meanwhile, recent convict Kojima overdoses on hubris, stirring up the underworld and endangering Misaki, and The Fable is forced into action in order to rescue her. A picture-perfect antihero-comedy manga adaptation, The Fable is a vibrant pastiche of kinetic storytelling, wry humor, nail-biting suspense, and hyperbolic action (by Jackie Chan’s crew) that should not be missed.
