Valley of the Shadow of Death
New York Asian Film Festival 2025
July 11 - 24, 2025
Pastor Leung (Anthony Wong) is conducting church outreach to the unhoused community when a familiar face plunges him into a downward spiral in this beautifully shot, twisty drama.
Anthony Wong (Still Human, NYAFF 2019) plays a pastor in the grips of a crisis of faith in Valley of the Shadow of Death. Pastor Leung is conducting church outreach to the unhoused community when a young man’s familiar face sends him into a spiral—he has just been released from prison, and he is connected to the death of Leung’s daughter years earlier. Leung must now decide whether he can practice forgiveness in the face of the unforgivable. Screen veteran Wong’s dramatic turn does not disappoint in this beautifully shot, twisty drama that proves newcomers Jeffrey Lam Sen and Antonio Tam are two directors to watch in Hong Kong cinema.
