Writer-directors Paul Schrader and Alex Ross Perry are each coming off of a remarkable movie year; the former’s First Reformed, with Ethan Hawke, was his biggest artistic and commercial success in decades, and the latter’s Her Smell, with Elisabeth Moss, is one of the daring highlights of this year’s NYFF. Though both Schrader and Perry have most often directed their own screenplays, they also have had experience writing scripts that others have directed. FLC announces James Gray’s Paper Tiger as the Opening Night selection of the 64th New York Film Festival, presented in partnership with Rolex. The film will make its North American premiere in a gala debut at Alice Tully Hall on Friday, September 25, with Gray and members of the cast and crew in attendance.
