Join Sandra Adair (NYFF61 Spotlight selection Hit Man) and Jonathan Alberts (NYFF61 Main Slate selection All of Us Strangers)—both members of American Cinema Editors—for an in-depth conversation about the craft and profession of film editing and the complex ways in which the editor’s creative labor comes into contact with the work of cinematographers, actors, and others.
This free talk will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 6:30pm in the EBM Amphitheater.
Across genres, styles, and modes of production, the work of the film editor remains one of the least visible but most essential elements of cinematic storytelling. In this year’s NYFF lineup, Main Slate selection All of Us Strangers and Spotlight selection Hit Man are exemplary showcases for the range of expressive effects made possible by the film editor’s contributions, demonstrating how pacing, rhythm, and punctuation can amplify or obscure meaning, accentuate performances, and synthesize precise interactions between comedy, drama, suspense, and eroticism. Join Sandra Adair, ACE (Hit Man) and Jonathan Alberts, ACE (All of Us Strangers)—both members of American Cinema Editors—for an in-depth conversation about the craft and profession of film editing, their collaborations with directors Richard Linklater and Andrew Haigh, and the complex ways in which the editor’s creative labor comes into contact with the work of cinematographers, actors, and others. Hit Man is a Spotlight selection and All of Us Strangers is a Main Slate election of this year’s New York Film Festival.

Tickets are limited to one per person, subject to availability.
