Film at Lincoln Center announces Mulholland Dr. with Rebekah Del Rio Live in Concert, taking place Wednesday, March 30 at 6:30pm at the Walter Reade Theater.

On the belated occasion of the 20th anniversary of the premiere of David Lynch’s late-career masterpiece Mulholland Dr. (2001), FLC welcomes singer/songwriter Rebekah Del Rio to the Walter Reade Theater for a special 35mm presentation of the film. The screening will be preceded by a musical performance by Del Rio, including “Llorando,” her mesmerizing rendition of Roy Orbison’s “Crying,” which marks one of the film’s most indelible scenes, as well as songs from the soundtrack of Twin Peaks and other Spanish and English originals. The one-night-only event, part of Del Rio’s “No Hay Banda Tour,” will conclude with a special onstage Q&A and autograph signing.

La Llorona de Los Angeles (“The weeping woman of LA”) is how ‪Rebekah Del Rio‬ is introduced in her iconic, dreamlike role in David Lynch’s ‪Mulholland Drive‬. David created the poignant scene for Rebekah after hearing her perform her Spanish-language rendition of ‪Roy Orbison‬’s ballad, “Crying”, which showcases Rebekah’s powerful vocal range. It was a meeting which David describes as a “happy accident”— that catapulted Rebekah to the global stage and resulted in a collaborative relationship with Lynch that has spanned decades. Rebekah was cast in Lynch’s “Rabbits” alongside Naomi Watts, which was eventually placed in his feature film, INLAND EMPIRE. She was a featured performer at the Roadhouse in episode 10 of Twin Peaks: The Return (2017), which highlights the song “No Stars”, written by Rebekah with David Lynch and his longtime musical collaborator, John Neff. Rebekah has been on numerous soundtracks including The Music of David Lynch on Capital Records which includes a live version of “Llorando” along with Twin Peaks The Return Roadhouse performances released on Rhino Records featured “No Stars”.

After moving to LA from her home town of San Diego, Rebekah signed to Irving Azoff’s label Giant Records, a subsidiary of Warner Music Group, whereafter she moved to Nashville in 1994 to pursue her Country career. She opened for Rod Stewart at the 25th WEA convention, and was a country and western star on the rise with her first album, “Nobody’s Angel”.

Rebekah has been featured, playing herself in movies such as Southland Tales (Donnie Darko Director Richard Kelly) and contributed to the soundtracks of award-winning films like ‪Sin City.  Her music has also been featured in television shows, including King of the Hill, Family Guy, Prison Break, and many more feature films such as Quattro Noza and Winter’s Dreams (Joey Curtis), Mia Sarah (Gustavo Ron) and This Teacher (Mark Jackson).

‪Rebekah Del Rio has shared the stage with musical legends Sting, Sir Elton John, and James Taylor at the 12th Annual Rainforest Foundation benefit concert at Carnegie Hall. In 2015, she opened Ted Danson’s Oceana charity concert, backed by Seth MacFarlane’s 50-piece orchestra. Both performances were received with standing ovations. ‬

UK designer Gareth Pugh featured Rebekah in a short film he shot for Fashion Week 2017, directed by Ruth Hogben (‪Lady Gaga‬). 2019 saw another Fashion Week collaboration when Rebekah closed designer Sandrine Philippe’s Paris show with her signature song Llorando.

Rebekah earned her first certified GOLD record with her contribution of Llorando on ‪Il Divo‬’s 2011 album Wicked Game. Her recent music projects include the cinematic masterpiece “Love Hurts Love Heals”, an 11-song album, produced by Heather Holley (‪Christina Aguilera‬), that explores the duality of love. She also recorded a full-length album celebrating the work of Sergio De Karlo, which includes 9 never-before-released tracks from the maestro of Cuban Bolero.

Mulholland Dr. with Rebekah Del Rio Live in Concert is organized by Dan Sullivan and Dennis Lim.

Mulholland Dr.
David Lynch, USA, 2001, 35mm, 145m
Lynch’s ninth feature, widely considered the masterpiece of his late career despite its evolution from an aborted TV pilot, takes its name from the storied Los Angeles road and weaves its plot around the city’s signature industry: motion pictures. Blonde Betty Elms (Naomi Watts in her breakthrough performance) arrives in Hollywood to become a movie star and meets an enigmatic amnesiac brunette (Laura Harring). Around this deepening friendship, Lynch builds a unique puzzle movie, steeped in the romance and artifice of a bygone Hollywood. Lynch’s best reviewed film since Blue Velvet earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Director and landed atop many best-of-the-decade lists. It remains the ultimate expression of Lynch’s deep love-hate relationship with Hollywood. An NYFF39 selection.
Wednesday, March 30, 6:30pm (Pre-screening musical performance and post-screening Q&A with Rebekah Del Rio)

A season of Lynch continues at FLC with a new 4K restoration of Lost Highway (opening June 24) and a special screening of Lynch’s enigmatic 10th feature, Inland Empire (on May 11), from a new digital restoration and featuring an in-person talk with Melissa Anderson, author of a recently published monograph on the film.
