The 58th edition of the New York Film Festival kicked off this week with the world premiere of Steve McQueen’s sensuous and uplifting Lovers Rock. As you may have heard, this year’s festival is rather unique, with socially-distanced screenings at drive-in theaters in Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx, along with virtual screenings available nationwide. Lovers Rock, one of three films from McQueen’s Small Axe anthology playing at the festival, was introduced by NYFF Director Eugene Hernandez at the Queens Drive-In and by NYFF Director of Programming Dennis Lim at Brooklyn Drive-In.

To celebrate the opening night, McQueen joined Lim for a virtual Q&A. Watch the video or listen to the podcast. And don’t miss the press conference with the director and the film’s stars, Amarah-Jae St. Aubyn and Micheal Ward.

Lovers Rock will have encore screenings on September 23 at the Bronx Drive-In and on the Virtual Cinema starting October 3. Tickets are available here.
