Free Talks: Nicolas Winding Refn (The Neon Demon)
Danish-born filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn returns to our free talks series to discuss his latest film, The Neon Demon, starring Elle Fanning, Jena Malone, and Keanu Reeves, which opens in theaters on June 24. Refn first hit the movie scene with the violent and uncompromising Pusher (1996), which he made at age 24. He has since gone on to write and direct nearly a dozen titles, including Drive (2011), which earned him the Best Director prize at the Cannes Film Festival as well as a BAFTA nomination. He returned to Cannes for Only God Forgives (2013) and again last month with The Neon Demon, in which Fanning plays an aspiring model who moves to Los Angeles, where her youth and vitality are devoured by a group of beauty-obsessed women willing to take any means necessary to get what she has. Refn will talk about the making of the film as well as his fascinating career so far and what’s coming next.
