Free Talk: Reframing Black Stories on Screen
L.A. Rebellion: Then and Now
April 25 - May 4, 2025
This free talk will take place on Saturday, April 26 at 4:00pm in the EBM Amphitheater.
Join programmer Claire Diao, scholar and writer Yasmina Price, and filmmakers Haile Gerima (Bush Mama and Ashes and Embers) and Merawi Gerima (Residue) for a wide-ranging conversation in which they’ll explore the history of the L.A. Rebellion and its enduring influence on artists and audiences in the United States and around the world, taking stock of the many ways in which the movement’s formal and thematic interventions continue to shape how Black lives are depicted in cinema and the media today.
Free tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis beginning one hour prior to each event at the corresponding box office. Tickets are limited to one per person, subject to availability. For those unable to attend, video from these events will be available online on Film at Lincoln Center’s YouTube channel at a later date.
