1 Girl Infinite
New York Asian Film Festival 2025
July 11 - 24, 2025
After losing their jobs, rebellious teens Yin Jia and Tong Tong spiral out of control. When love and jealousy collide, their friendship comes apart in this gritty and vibrant portrait of alienated Chinese youth.
After losing their jobs in a big way, codependent rebellious teenagers Yin Jia and Tong Tong spend their time getting into mischief and hanging out with their makeshift gang of other tough girls. When Tong Tong falls for a lothario drug dealer, it sets Yin Jia off on a jealous rampage. She will stop at almost nothing to win back the object of her unrequited desire and dives headfirst into peril. This strikingly gritty and resonant debut feature paints its raw coming-of-age tale with swathes of brash color against a gray urban landscape. With naturalistic performances and genuine locations the film simmers with palpably stark realism. Inspired by writer, director, and co-star Lilly Hu’s own experiences, 1 Girl Infinite’s fitting guerilla style and candid glimpse at alienated Chinese youth render it both a startling and tender revelation.
