Shots ring out. A best-selling novelist lies dead in his secluded mountain home. Lee In-seon, a mysterious young woman found at the scene, confesses to the crime. She quickly reveals her shocking motive, which raises more questions than it answers, setting off a labyrinthine search for the truth. Rising star Kim Minha (Pachinko) plays the role of the alleged killer with steely-eyed conviction. Complicating matters further, Lee will only speak to detective Park Min-ju, played with grit and gusto by Choi Hee-seo. It turns out Park has a connection to Lee and knows about her troubled past all too well. Enigmatic interrogations lead the detective on what seems to be a wild goose chase, unraveling a plot far more sinister than the open-and-shut case it appeared to be. Writer-director Chun Sun-young’s stunning feature debut is a cleverly crafted pastiche of some of the best tropes in the thriller genre, told with seductively wicked verve.
