Married to the Mob
With its cast of oddball characters, evocative sense of place, and idiosyncratic soundtrack (featuring a score by David Byrne), this genial story about a woman’s dream to change her life is as playful and romantic as it is offbeat and perilous—the kind of mafia movie only Jonathan Demme could have made.
Angela (Michelle Pfeiffer), wife of philandering Frank “Cucumber” de Marco (Alec Baldwin), has resigned herself to the life of a Long Island mafiosa. After he gets whacked, Angela decides to skip town with her son and start over. Among others, she’s tailed by mob boss Tony “The Tiger” Russo (Oscar-nominated Dean Stockwell) and a love-struck FBI agent (Matthew Modine). Note: the 35mm print will have Spanish subtitles.
