Sweetie, You Won’t Believe It
New York Asian Film Festival 2021
August 6 - 22, 2021
A fishing trip goes awry when three unwitting buddies venture into a deliriously off-kilter backwater in this gonzo action-comedy spectacular.
Sweetie, You Won’t Believe It is available in the FLC Virtual Cinema beginning August 12. Get tickets here.
This farcical genre mash-up—from Kazakhstan, no less—lives up to its name and then some! A man escapes the hilariously incessant nagging of his extremely pregnant wife by sneaking off for a fishing trip with a couple of buddies. Soon they learn that karma is a devil in disheveled clothing, as they encounter unimaginable dangers on their would-be getaway. Director Yernar Nurgaliyev fashions a deliriously off-kilter backwater populated by bunglers whose misguided antics would make the Coen brothers blush, not to mention an angel of death hell-bent on annihilation. No rock is left unturned as fantastically unpredictable elements raise the stakes in this gonzo action-comedy spectacular that’s wild and inventive beyond belief.
