FSLC PRESENTS OBSCURE PLEASURES: THE FILMS OF WALERIAN BOROWCZYK April 2-9

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today Obscure Pleasures: The Films of Walerian Borowczyk (April 2-9). Co-presented with the Polish Cultural Institute New York and The Cultural Services of the French Embassy, NY, the series will offer a rare opportunity to see the work of the controversial filmmaker on the big screen. These masterpieces of surrealist and erotic cinema, populated by a rogue’s gallery of infamous performers like Joe Dallesandro, Udo Kier, Sylvia Kristel, and Paloma Picasso, feature explicit sexual content that often led them to be banned in several countries at the time of their release. The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today its complete lineup for Art of the Real, the second annual documentary-as-art festival, taking place April 10-26. Founded on the most expansive possible view of documentary film, this nonfiction showcase features new work from around the world and in a variety of genres alongside retrospective and thematic selections, including a tribute to the great French director Agnès Varda and a spotlight on the art and history of reenactment. MoMA & FSLC announce complete lineup for the 44th annual NEW DIRECTORS/NEW FILMS March 18-29

The Museum of Modern Art and the Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today the complete lineup for the 44th New Directors/New Films (ND/NF), March 18-29. Since 1972, the festival has been an annual rite of early spring in New York City, bringing exciting discoveries from around the world to adventurous moviegoers. All aspects of cinema, from production to exhibition, have changed dramatically over the years, but the spirit of innovation and the element of surprise that have always defined this festival remain intact. Dedicated to the discovery of new works by emerging and dynamic filmmaking talent, this year’s festival will screen 26 international features and 16 short films. Founded on the most expansive possible view of documentary film, Art of the Real serves as a platform for filmmakers and artists to deliver a wider view of nonfiction cinema. FSLC LAUNCHES INAUGURAL EDUCATION PROGRAM CINEKIDS

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today the launch of CineKids, a new education initiative focused on bringing film into the classroom, through screenings, discussions, and production, in order to bolster visual literacy learning in neighborhood elementary schools. Funded by a $200,000 grant from the William Randolph Hearst Foundation, the Film Society has engaged BRIC’s arts education program to partner on the design and implementation of the program. CineKids has launched in three public elementary schools on the Upper West Side of Manhattan’s Community School District 3, and includes P.S. 191, P.S. 75, and P.S. 163. Read More

FSLC & UNIFRANCE FILMS ANNOUNCE LINEUP FOR 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF RENDEZ-VOUS WITH FRENCH CINEMA

The 20th Anniversary of Rendez-Vous with French Cinema, the Film Society of Lincoln Center and UniFrance films’ celebrated annual showcase of the best in contemporary French film, sweeps across screens at the Film Society of Lincoln Center, the IFC Center, and BAMcinématek, March 6-15. The 2015 edition returns with another program of features and shorts that exemplify today’s most innovative French artistry by burgeoning talents and avowed masters alike. The lineup—which consists of 22 feature films and four short films making their New York, U.S., or North American premieres—demonstrates that the landscape of French cinema has never been more fertile, and the voices issuing from it never more diverse. This anniversary year also marks a special acknowledgment in support of French cinema with the appointment of two festival Co-Chairs, Nathalie Baye and Martin Scorsese. FSLC to host a special screening of Cartoonists, Foot Soldiers of Democracy; Jan 23

The Film Society of Lincoln Center, in partnership with the Cultural Services of the French Embassy NY, Unifrance Films, Distrib Films, and Kinology, will host a special screening and the North American premiere of Stéphanie Valloatto’s Cartoonists, Foot Soldiers of Democracy on Friday, January 23 at 7:30pm. All proceeds for the event will go to Reporters Without Borders, the largest press freedom organization in the world, with almost 30 years of experience. FSLC to Host An Evening with Tom McCarthy

The Film Society of Lincoln Center will host An Evening with Tom McCarthy on Wednesday, February 25 at 7:00PM at the Walter Reade Theater. On the occasion of the publication of his latest novel, Satin Island, McCarthy will introduce and discuss a double bill of Dial H-I-S-T-O-R-Y, Johan Grimonprez’s 1997 essay film on the history of airplane hijackings, and Antony Balch and William S.
