57th New York Film Festival FAQs

We’ve gathered answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about the NYFF ticketing process. If you have a question not answered below, please reach out to us at members@filmlinc.org, patrons@filmlinc.org, or by calling the NYFF Hotline at 212-875-5631. We recommend getting in touch before our pre-sale period begins to make sure we’re able to provide you with information in a timely manner. Please find a full list of pre-sale dates by membership level online here and listed below. We look forward to seeing all of you at the festival!

You can find a step-by-step guide with images and instructions for Member ticket purchases using a mobile device on our website here. If you have purchased an NYFF pass, please find step-by-step instructions for how to redeem your pre-paid tickets online here.

For a comprehensive “How-to-Fest” Guide in printable PDF format, please find the one that matches your current Member or Patron level here: Ambassador Patrons, Benefactors, Partners, Supporters, Angels, Friends and Contributors. Additional instructions and information about RSVPing to specific events will be distributed throughout the pre-sale and festival period. Please note New Wave members at the Angel and Supporter levels will be provided with details on how to sign-up for Hauser Lounge access in a separate communication. We recommend keeping on eye on your inbox for all special announcements during this time.

Q: Where do I find my login information?

A: Your username is the email associated with your account and the password you created. The Login button is located in the top right corner of our main FLC website along with the upper right corner of our NYFF main page. Due to security reasons, we do not have this password, but can send you a password reset email if you’re having trouble with accessing tickets during your pre-sale period. We highly recommend checking this before pre-sale. When you’re logged into your membership account, you can double check it’s working by going to the ticket page of any screening and making sure the “member price” appears.

Q: Can I use my digital membership card when ordering tickets at the Alice Tully Hall box office?

A: Yes, the box office can recognize your membership from your digital or printed membership card. If you don’t have either card on you at the time of purchase, they will be able to pull up your account with your Membership ID number.

Q: Why am I unable to make my seat location selections online?

A: Our current online system for ticket orders does not permit you to make a seat selection. It will provide you with the best available seat at the time of your purchase. If you have specific seats in mind and need to be able to reserve in a particular area, we ask that you visit the Alice Tully Hall box office in person during your pre-sale period as the box office staff can assist with your location.

Q: How can I request seats for a medical need?

All of our theaters are accessible for our guests using wheelchairs. If you have another medical need and are unable to visit the box office in person, please order your tickets first, and then email NYFFSeatRequests@filmlinc.org for more information on accommodations.

Q: What if I’m unhappy with my seat locations?
A: If you’re unhappy with assignments made from orders online, you can visit the Alice Tully Hall Box Office on the day of the screening during the festival to inquire about changing into different seats.

Q: What if I need to exchange or refund my tickets?

A: There are no refunds or exchanges on NYFF tickets.

Q: Why is there a holding fee for tickets kept at the box office?

A: This is because Alice Tully Hall has limited space for holding tickets. We recommend you use the Print at Home option for tickets, which is available at no cost.

Q: Why is there a single ticket fee?

There will be an additional charge per ticket calculated at check-out that is standard practice to cover costs associated with the processing and fulfillment of an order. This fee is only associated with processing orders online. There is no single ticket fee for purchases made in person at the box office.

Q: Can Print-At-Home tickets be used without physically printing them out?

A: Yes. Your print at home tickets will be sent to you as a PDF attachment, which you can open on your phone for the ticket scanners at the theater.

Q: How will I receive my tickets for Opening Night, Closing Night or Centerpiece?

A: If you purchase your tickets online, they will be either emailed to you to Print at Home or left at the Alice Tully Hall box office, depending on the ticket delivery option you chose. Tickets for Patrons Level Members who receive them as part of their Patron benefits will only be available at the Alice Tully Hall check-in area before the screening.

Q: I do not own a computer and am unable to make it to the box office to place my order. May I mail it in or place it over the phone?

A: Ordering online is more beneficial to you than any other method. You will receive the seat locations and an email confirmation immediately after fulfilling your order. Due to the high volume of ticket requests at this time, we cannot accept ticket orders by mail or over the phone.

Q: How do I navigate the “Virtual Waiting Room” when ordering online?

A: When our website is experiencing high volumes of sales, you will automatically be placed in a “Virtual Waiting Room”. It is important that you do not navigate away from this page or close the window as you will lose your place in line. Please wait for the full hold time to have access to the ticket page. In the case you are unable to access tickets after being placed in the Virtual Waiting Room due to connectivity issues, please call us at 212-875-5631.

Q: Your website has crashed before during NYFF, how do I know that it will process my order?

A: We have upgraded our ticketing system so that it can handle a larger volume of traffic and is easier to use. Last year we had a much smoother pre-sale online, and we continue to improve our systems, including a website upgrade that now allows you to purchase tickets directly from a mobile device.

Q: How much will tickets cost?

Main Slate, Spotlight on Documentary: $25 Members/$30 GP

All other programs (non-Alice Tully Hall venues): $12 Members/$17 GP

Opening Night (Gala in Alice Tully Hall): $85 Members/$120 GP

Centerpiece/Closing (Gala in Alice Tully Hall): $60 Members/$80 GP

Opening Night, Centerpiece, Closing Night (outside of Alice Tully Hall): $35 Members/$40 GP

Q: Is there a limit to how many tickets I can purchase to each screening?

A: Yes, any individual ordering tickets for a personal membership or under a household during the presale period is limited to two (2) tickets per screening.

Q: How can I purchase additional tickets?

A: You may purchase additional tickets during the General Public on-sale date starting Sunday, September 8. The limit at this time will remain two tickets per screening, per order. Members and Patrons who are NYFF passholders have three different times to purchase tickets: vouchers can be redeemed during their pass pre-sale period, tickets can be purchased during the Member/Patron pre-sale period, and additional tickets can be purchased during the General Public ticket period.

Q: In the past, “sold-out” screenings became available later or had empty seats during the screening. Why is that?

A: When a screening becomes ‘stand-by only’, it is because all of the tickets are unavailable at that time. Occasionally, parties involved with a screening will release unused tickets that we are able to release for public sale closer to the day of the event. We do not have prior knowledge of when these releases will happen. We will not be able to add you to a waitlist. You can check back on our website for any additional ticket release information as a list will be posted on the NYFF page as seats become available. We also send email updates with this information when we’re able regarding notification that holds are released.

New Wave Film Club

New Wave is Film at Lincoln Center’s membership program for members in their 20s and 30s. New Wave Friends, Angels, and Patrons receive invitations to Film Club meetings taking place throughout the year. Similar to a book club, Film at Lincoln Center will select a film that is playing in our theaters and host a discussion to explore the film’s aesthetics, themes, and why it matters, in a casual setting with refreshments. The next Film Club meeting will take place on Tuesday, September 3 from 7pm-9pm, moderated by Dan Sullivan, Maddie Whittle, and Tyler Wilson from Film at Lincoln Center’s programming team. If you’re interested in becoming a part of the New Wave for access, or to RSVP as a current member, please email newwave@filmlinc.org.
