Joseph Gordon-Levitt has signed on to play Philippe Petit, better known as the man who surreptitiously mounted a daring tight rope walk atop the World Trade Center in 1974. The 3D narrative of the story was made famous again in recent years by James Marsh's doc Man On Wire.

Opening the fest is Ana Lily Amirpour's A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, while Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard's unconventional Nick Cave "documentary" 20,000 Days On Earth will close out the event, which runs March 19 - 30 at the Film Society of Lincoln Center and the Museum of Modern Art.

The San Francisco Film Society has named Noah Cowan its new Executive Director. Cowan who has served as Artistic Director of TIFF Bell Lightbox in Toronto since 2008, will assume the position March 3.
The eight-day retrospective, Permanent Vacation: The Films of Jim Jarmusch (April 2 - 10), includes all 11 of his features, a selection of short films and music videos, and the theatrical release of Only Lovers Left Alive.
