We’re thrilled to debut NYFF Soft Focus, a series of casual interviews with filmmakers at the 54th New York Film Festival. In the first episode, Chloë Sevigny talks about her earliest movie theater memory and what she looks for when watching films today. Sevigny is at the festival with her directorial debut, Kitty, which screens in Shorts Program 4: New York.

NYFF Soft Focus is created by filmmakers Jeff Reichert and Farihah Zaman. The interviews were shot using a 1986 Jupiter-9 85mm, a vintage Russian lens known for its “swirly bokeh,” which gives the videos their distinctive look.
