The opening weekend of the 54th New York Film Festival wrapped up with the New York premiere of Maren Ade’s critically lauded Toni Erdmann and the U.S. premiere of Jim Jarmusch’s Paterson on Sunday night. Paterson’s star, Adam Driver, was also honored at a dinner just before the film’s premiere.

Our NYFF Live free talks series included a panel called “Making Moonlight” and a discussion with the Film Society of Lincoln Center and Jaeger-LeCoultre’s 2016 Filmmaker in Residence Alice Rohrwacher. A star-studded red carpet event preceded the NYFF premiere of Kelly Reichardt’s Certain Women on Monday night, with appearances by stars Kristen Stewart, Michelle Williams, Laura Dern, and Lily Gladstone.

Exciting things were also happening over in our Shorts Programs and Convergence sections, including Q&As and a talk called The Psychology of Storytelling’ with producer Lindsay Doran. Tuesday evening saw film legend Jim Jarmusch join Director of NYFF Kent Jones for our annual On Cinema masterclass, sponsored by HBO, as well as the U.S. premiere of Gastón Solnicki’s Kékszakállú.
